Our draft WRMP 2024 consultation
Following the close of the draft WRMP 2024 consultation, we will consider all of the feedback we have received on our revised draft plan.
We intend to publish a Statement of Response to this consultation in early 2025, following which we’ll update our revised draft WRMP and share it with the Secretary of State for the Environment.
We consulted on draft WRMP24 between November 2022 and February 2023. Since then, dates for completing some key schemes have been revised. These are as follows:
- The Havant Thicket Reservoir in Hampshire will now be completed in 2031 instead of 2029.
- The Hampshire Water Transfer and Water Recycling Project (HWTWRP) will be completed in 2034 instead of 2030.
- The Sandown water recycling project on the Isle of Wight will be completed in 2030 instead of 2027.
- The Littlehampton water recycling project in Sussex will be completed in 2030 instead of 2027.
In order to mitigate the impact of these delays and ensure that we are able to maintain sufficient supplies under drought conditions, we have made a number of changes in our revised draft WRMP24. These include:
- Promoting greater savings in water used in homes and businesses.
- Delivering two groundwater schemes in Hampshire and one groundwater scheme in Sussex by 2030.
- Increasing the bulk import from SES Water into Sussex.
- Importing water from Norway via sea tankers to provide additional resilience between 2031 and 2034 (when the
- Hampshire Water Transfer Project is completed).
