Taking water samples at customers’ homes

The sampling programme is required by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) to comply with The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 (as amended).

background

Why we take water samples

Sometimes we may need to send a technician to your property to check your water quality. Water samples are taken at random, so we can’t make an appointment before the technician’s visit.

We regularly carry out sampling throughout the year. A high percentage of these tests are compliant, but if we find anything, we’ll go back to take further samples from the property, to check the samples and help determine a route cause if there’s an issue.

How water sampling visits work

  •  Addresses for sampling visits are selected at random from our customer database.
  • A Water Quality Technician then visits the properties selected to carry out water sampling.
  • During the sampling visit, the technician collects water samples which are later analysed at the laboratory using a variety of tests, to make sure we are meeting specific water quality standards.
  • The Water Quality Technician will also carry out some tests while inside the customer’s property.
  • Once the technician has completed the visit, the customer will be given a ‘Customer Information Card’ where they can request the results of the samples collected from their property.
