How to set up your water bill in a new house

Moved into a new house and need to sort out your water? Whether you’re a first-time homeowner or relocating, our quick guide will help you set up your water bill so you can manage your water and wastewater with ease.

background

Find out who your local supplier is

Find out if your new address falls under a different water company than your previous one. If you're renting, check this information with your landlord or property manager three to four weeks before your move to allow enough time for any necessary arrangements.

To find out if we cover your area, enter your postcode on the Water UK website.

In the UK, every water company looks after a specific region. You cannot change who supplies your water or who manages your wastewater.

Register for your water bill

Start by logging into Your Account if you’re moving within the area, or register for a new account if you’re new to the area. This will let you easily manage your water bill and wastewater services online.

If you're a landlord, you can manage your properties, water accounts, and tenant information via the Landlord and Tenant Address Portal.

Provide your details

To set up your water bill for your new home, you will need to provide the following details:

  • Your new home address: Take care to enter your new address accurately so that we have the right location and your water bill is correctly registered.
  • Move-in date: Specify your move-in date so that your account can be activated from the day you start using water in your new home.
  • Personal information: Provide necessary personal details, including your name, contact information, and any previous addresses if applicable.
  • If you’re moving within the area and we are still your provider, please have your customer number (the 8-10 digit number at the top right of your water bill) and your final meter reading ready. Learn more about how to find and read your water meter.

Submit initial meter readings

If your new home has a water meter, take an initial meter reading as soon as you move in. This will make sure that the charges reflects your usage.

You can submit your meter reading through Your Account or by calling our Customer Service team. Make sure that this reading is recorded to avoid any estimation errors on your bill.

Manage your account and bills

Access Your Account to set up and manage your billing preferences. This portal allows you to view your bills, track your water usage, and update your payment details as needed.

Once your account is set up, keep an eye on your water bills for the first few months and that the changes reflect your actual water usage.

If you notice any issues or if your new water bill seems incorrect, reach out to our Customer Service team. We will help you resolve any problems and make sure your billing is accurate.
