Improving bathing water quality around St Helens

We’re investing over £2m to improve how we treat wastewater at our treatment works in St Helens Wastewater Treatment Works.

background

What are we doing?

We want to install new humus (settling) tank so that we can treat more wastewater at any one time. This will also improve the treatment of excess and diluted rainwater that flows into the site, increasing the quality of water returning to the local environment and improving local bathing waters.

Our team are currently on site, preparing for the planned work.

Where

St Helens Wastewater Treatment Works, Isle of Wight.

Investment amount

Over £2 million

Start date

February 2025, if planning permission is granted.

Completion date

March 2026

Useful information for residents and visitors

We expect that this work to have minimal impact on residents. However, we will have additional vehicles to and from the site.

It is possible that there may be traffic constraints, but we will construct a temporary layby area which will prevent any traffic backing up into the main road.
