Southern Water has today (28 August 2024) published our response to water industry regulator Ofwat, following its draft determination of our original investment plan for 2025-2030 which was submitted in October.
Stuart Ledger, Southern Water’s Chief Financial Officer, said:
“After carefully reviewing Ofwat’s draft determination, we don’t believe it would secure the investment required to deliver massive change and tackle the issues that matter most to the communities we serve.
We've set out the changes to Ofwat's draft determination that are necessary to attract the investment that's needed over the next five years. We’ve now got greater certainty over what the Environment Agency expects us to deliver by 2030, and so the scope of our planned work has increased, making it critical that investors choose to invest in the water sector.
Southern Water remains focused on delivering what thousands of customers have told us is most important. Customers want to see a step-change in our environmental performance, and they want us to tackle the challenges of water scarcity, water quality, pollutions and flooding, contributing strongly to the local economy. Our plan will achieve this, and help deliver the ‘re-set’ in the sector which the new Government has called for.”
