South Downs Leisure is saving water with help from our water efficiency audits
Our pilot scheme offering water saving visits to businesses has helped South Downs Leisure save over 10,000 litres of water per day.
South Downs Leisure took part in the pilot scheme, with plans to reduce the amount of water used in the facilities provided at two of their centres, Worthing Leisure Centre and Splashpoint Leisure Centre.
Under the scheme, an audit is undertaken to look at water saving solutions tailored to each individual company, including simple leak fixing, fitting water-efficient devices and recommending water efficient solutions, such as rainwater harvesting. The scheme is being run with the help of the charity, Groundwork.
Following the successful application by South Downs Leisure, water saving audits took place at Worthing Leisure Centre and Splashpoint Leisure Centre, identifying and fixing a number of leaks, and fitting devices to save over 10,000 litres of water every day.
At Worthing Leisure Centre, ten leaks were found and fixed, saving about 2,705 litres of water every day. In addition, water saving devices such as tap inserts to reduce the flow of water, have saved a further 2,897 litres of water per day. The total daily saving is over 5,000 litres of water
A similar saving could be seen at Splashpoint Leisure Centre, where nine leaky loos were identified and fixed, saving an estimated 4500 litres of water per day. After installing five flush savers in toilets, an additional 548 litres of water is being saved on a daily basis.
“Sustainability is a key strategic objective for South Downs Leisure (SDL) and water consumption is a vital part of this strategy. The audits were very thorough and the team carrying these out from Southern Water had great knowledge and experience.”
